Theresa welcomes Eton’s support for new Holyport College

Theresa May has expressed her support for Eton College’s announcement that it will be taking on the role of sole educational sponsor of Holyport College, the new free school due to open in September 2014 in her constituency. Holyport College will be established as a new day and boarding school in the state sector, with specific provision being made for looked-after children, children on the edge of care and those from armed forces families. Eton’s sponsorship will be undertaken through the provision of staff time and expertise, and sharing educational experience and facilities.Read More

Theresa backs plans for new Free School in Holyport

Theresa May has backed proposals to establish a new Free School in Holyport. The proposals would see Holyport Free School established as a new day and boarding school in the state sector, on the site of the former Holyport Manor Special Educational Needs School. As a Free School, it would be non-selective and independent of the local authority. The school plans to open in September 2014 with a commitment to providing opportunities for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds to succeed.Read More

Theresa May has welcomed the news that two further local schools have converted to Academy status. Cox Green School and Furze Platt Senior School have followed The Piggott School and Lowbrook Primary School to become the next schools in the Maidenhead constituency to gain Academy status, which brings with it freedom from local authority control and greater freedoms over the curriculum and finances.Read More

Theresa offers support to Reading School and Kendrick School

Theresa has reacted to the news that a small group of people have brought forward a ballot to end selection at two Reading grammar schools, Reading School and Kendrick School, and offered her support to them continuing in their current capacity. Several local parents whose children attend these school have contacted Theresa to express their concern about the move, which is opposed by the schools.Read More
