In National Apprenticeships Week, Theresa May has welcomed a massive increase in the number of people undertaking apprenticeships in the Maidenhead constituency. Following an increase in Government funding, the number of people taking part in apprenticeships in the local area has risen by nearly 40% compared to the last academic year. The increase in Maidenhead is part of a national pattern which has seen the number of people starting an apprenticeship – many of whom will be young people – increase by 177,000 in a single year. Theresa May has offered her congratulations to The Queen on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of her accession to the Throne. Theresa said, “I warmly congratulate Her Majesty on reaching her Diamond Jubilee. This significant anniversary reminds us of The Queen’s many years of dedicated service to the nation, for which we should all be thankful. Theresa May has marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens and has paid tribute to the nation’s literary heritage of which he is a part. At a Cabinet meeting this morning, Theresa was presented with a copy of the Dickens classic ‘Little Dorrit’ by the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, who marked the occasion by selecting a Dickens novel for each Cabinet minister.Read More
