An end to rogue car clampers in Maidenhead town centre

  • 31 Aug 2010

Theresa May has welcomed the Government’s announcement that wheel clamping on private land is to be banned, bringing an end to the practices of rogue wheel clampers in Maidenhead and the local area. When the ban comes into force anybody clamping or towing a vehicle on private land will face tough penalties, meaning that motorists will no longer fall victim to the unscrupulous tactics operated by many clamping firms – something that has been a particular problem in Maidenhead.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I know from the letters and emails I receive that the actions of rogue clampers have caused a lot of distress to motorists in Maidenhead town centre, and elsewhere in the local area. Nobody should face intimidation or unscrupulous tactics at the hands of clampers. I am therefore delighted that the Government will be able to ban clamping on private land as part of the Freedom Bill, which will be introduced in November.”
