Anger over steep increases in car parking charges at local train stations

  • 23 Sep 2009

Theresa May has reacted angrily after First Great Western announced a hike of over 25% on car parking charges at Maidenhead and Twyford train stations. Theresa said, “These huge increases in car parking charges are outrageous and yet another way of raising revenue from rail users who are already paying large fares.”

“The introduction of the RinGo service will cushion the blow for some but I still believe FGW assume they can get away with large increases as they are effectively a monopoly provider.”

“I will be taking this up with FGW and the Department of Transport and asking for an explanation as to where this money will be spent and where local rail users will see improvements. I am also concerned that the large increase in charges at Twyford will worsen the problem of commuters parking in residential streets near the station.”
