Boost for Maidenhead town centre

  • 23 Oct 2012

Theresa May has welcomed the news that the ‘Enjoy Maidenhead’ Town Team has been named by the Government as one of its Town Team Partners, entitling it to increased support and finance. Town Team Partners will receive backing from a multi-million pound support programme to help put key elements of their plans into action as well as an advice and mentoring package.

In August, the Government asked Members of Parliament to nominate their local Town Teams for the programme and the successful applicants have now been announced. Theresa nominated the ‘Enjoy Maidenhead’ Town Team, which brings together the local authority, local Chamber of Commerce and local businesses and is working to improve Maidenhead town centre by making use of empty shops and bringing more activity to the High Street. As a Town Team Partner they will now receive £10,000 towards this work and will have access to a network of advisers managed by the Association of Town Centre Management with direct mentoring and visits from a range of retail experts.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I am very pleased that Maidenhead town centre will benefit from this increased support. Maidenhead has huge potential and, along with our wider work to rejuvenate the town centre, we can be optimistic about the town’s future. It is also a demonstration of the Government’s strong support for the future of town centres across the country.”
