Are you currently studying in years 10 to 13 at school? Have you every fancied the chance to spend a day in Parliament meeting MPs and political journalists? Do you have an opinion about Global Poverty?
For the sixth year running, the Parliamentary Press Gallery is running an essay competition designed to promote awareness and discussion of the values of parliamentary democracy and the political process, and an understanding of the role of parliamentary journalism.
This year entrants are asked to write an essay on the subject of global poverty. The winner of the competition will be invited to spend a day at Westminster, with all expenses paid, in late February or early March.
Theresa May MP is keen to get as many pupils as possible in the area to enter the competition. Theresa said, “This competition presents an excellent opportunity for young people to find out more about politics and explore the issue of global poverty. Participating in an essay competition like this will improve essay writing skills and looks excellent on university application forms. There is so much going on in Parliament and I would be delighted to see a pupil from the area come up and experience it.”
The deadline for essays is 12th November and further information about the competition can be found at www.parliamentarypressgallery.org.uk
