Crime down again in the local area

  • 25 Oct 2013

Theresa May has welcomed the news that crime has fallen once again in the local area. The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that over the last three years recorded crime in the Thames Valley area has fallen by 25% – one of the largest falls anywhere in the country. The follows the news that, overall, crime in England and Wales is down by more than 10% since 2010.

Of the 43 police force areas in England and Wales, only two have seen larger reductions in crime than the Thames Valley since June 2010. Meanwhile, Independent Crime Survey data shows overall crime at its lowest level since records began in 1981. The estimated number of crimes against adults in the year ending June 2013 is down 9 per cent compared with the previous year’s survey.

Commenting, Theresa said: “This is excellent news for the local area and shows that the Government’s police reforms are working. I congratulate Thames Valley Police on all their efforts, which have resulted in one of the most significant reductions in crime of any area in the country. This shows that by cutting paperwork and bureaucracy, and allowing police officers to focus directly on tackling crime, we can see real improvements on the frontline.”
