Crime falls faster in the Thames Valley area than anywhere else

  • 20 Oct 2014

Theresa May has welcomed the news that crime in the Thames Valley area has fallen faster than in any other part of the country. New figures from the independent Office for National Statistics shows that since 2010 recorded crime in the Thames Valley area has fallen by 30% – the deepest fall in crime of any police force area in England and Wales.

The latest figures from the independent Crime Survey of England and Wales also show that crime across the country has fallen by more than a fifth in the same period – meaning more than 2.3 million fewer crimes compared to 2010.

Since 2010, the Government has followed an action plan to tackle crime by freeing the police to fight crime by cutting red tape and scrapping unnecessary targets, giving criminals tougher sentences, giving the police the powers they need to tackle criminals, tackling the root causes of crime, and making the police answer to the community to help drive down crime.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I congratulate Thames Valley Police on their achievement in cutting crime and delivering a better service to the public while making savings. Crime has fallen faster in the Thames Valley area than anywhere else. This is great news for local residents and demonstrates that the Government’s reforms are working: cutting red tape and giving the police just one simple target, to cut crime. Families are safer and more secure because of this.”
