Earlier flood protection for the local area

Charvil is among the areas benefiting from the Government’s announcement that it is bringing forward more than £140 million of the £2.3 billion six-year flood defence programme announced in December. 47 brand new schemes have been given the green light as part of the long-term investment programme and work will start on another 165 flood defence projects earlier than previously announced. Overall, more than 31,000 homes and businesses across the country will be better protected from flooding sooner than planned.

The Government announced its six-year programme of investment in flood defences in December – the largest and most ambitious flood and coastal erosion risk management investment programme ever undertaken in England. Flood defence schemes for Bisham, Twyford, Charvil and the River Loddon were included.

As part of the recent Budget, the Government has now confirmed that a number of schemes will be brought forward including the Charvil Flood Alleviation Scheme which is being introduced two years earlier than expected and will benefit over 30 households at risk of flooding.

Commenting, Theresa said: “This is confirmation of the Government’s pledge to better protect homes and businesses from the risk of flooding. I welcome the fact that the Charvil Flood Alleviation Scheme will be brought forward by two years, which is very good news for local residents. This should also provide reassurance to residents in Bisham, Twyford and elsewhere of the Government’s commitment to deliver the funding it has promised.”
