Good news for St Marks

  • 27 May 2008

Berkshire East PCT has announced that St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead will get a minor injuries unit following consultation on healthcare services in East Berkshire including Maidenhead. Original plans did not include a minor injuries unit for St Mark’s but Theresa May joined forces with the Maidenhead Advertiser to campaign for the unit.

Following the announcement, Theresa said:

“I am delighted that, as a result of our campaign, Maidenhead will get a minor injuries unit, albeit as a pilot. I have been pressing for this for some time and was angry that in the Primary Care Trust’s original plans they did not include a minor injuries unit at St Mark’s. I know how valuable this facility would be for local people who have seen too many services taken away from Maidenhead over the years.”

“I was pleased to join forces with the Maidenhead Advertiser to campaign for this extra service at St Mark’s. Thousands of people signed the petition supporting the Unit and it is clear that the Trust has listened to what we told them. But it is only a pilot and we will need to keep up the pressure to ensure this unit becomes permanent.”

“Sadly there’s also some bad news for St Mark’s. I am extremely disappointed that the Trust has decided to move inpatient services from Charles Ward at St Marks to Upton Park in Slough. During the consultation, people told the Trust what an amazing service the Charles Ward provides. Why should such an excellent service be changed?”
