Improvements in safety at local train stations recognised

  • 30 Jul 2010

Theresa May has praised efforts to improve customer safety at stations in her constituency. In a letter addressed to local Station Manager, Andrew Dickinson, Theresa highlighted the number of rural stations which have been accredited and reaccredited under the Department for Transport’s Secure Stations Scheme in the local area.

Stations including Cookham, Maidenhead and Twyford have all achieved the national status, which recognises stations that have worked with police officers and other local partners to implement the best possible security measures.

The accreditation also draws on crime figures and customers’ opinions and further recognises that security can be increased through improvements to station design, as well as good management.

Theresa said, “It’s great to see the DfT awarding First Great ‘Secure Stations Status’ to Cookham, Maidenhead and Twyford stations. Public transport links are vital to so many people living in the local area and the added reassurance that they can travel in safety will encourage more people to leave their car at home and travel by train.”
