  • 30 Jun 2008

On 24th June Scouts from Pinkneys Green joined Theresa May for a tea party with the Speaker of the House of Commons this week.

Nicholas Jones, a Scout from Pinkneys Green who got the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament said, “It was a great experience to come to Westminster, in London, to visit the Houses of Parliament. Scouting is all about adventure and trying new experiences. Today certainly reflects that!”

Theresa said, “I was delighted to meet some of the Scouts from Pinkneys Green, and that they were given the opportunity to attend such a special event.”

+“I have enjoyed listening to their experiences and learning about the many activities these Scouts have been involved in. It is clear that Scouting continues to be relevant, providing young people with the opportunities to try out new adventures, from trying snowboarding to working with their community. I wish them and The Scout Association the very best of luck in the future.”_

Chief Scout Peter Duncan, speaking at the event, said, “The Scouts who have attended today are members of the largest co-educational youth movement in the world. The Scout Association offers challenge and adventure to 28 million people worldwide and 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK.”

“I hope the parliamentarians here will agree that Scouting is creating a better world through its work with young people, and has a clear role in encouraging young people to make a positive difference to their communities and to the world.”
