Public meeting to discuss future of Charles Ward

  • 7 Jul 2011

Theresa May is encouraging local residents to attend a special public meeting to discuss the future of Charles Ward at St Marks Hospital amid a threat to move mental health services for older people to Reading. Members of the public are invited to the Adult Services and Health Overview and Scrutiny Panel meeting on Monday 11th July, where questions will be put to the Chief Executive of Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust which has proposed the move.

The meeting will take place in Maidenhead Town Hall at 7:30pm. At the meeting the Maidenhead Advertiser will present the Chief Executive, Philippa Slinger, with 2,430 ‘Save Charles Ward’ campaign forms collected over the last four months from local residents, along with more than 350 signatures on an e-petition collected by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I welcome the meeting that will take place on Monday and I hope that many people will attend to show their support for Charles Ward remaining open, and mental health services staying in Maidenhead. It is important to show the strength of local feeling, as many of us know that removing services from Maidenhead would be completely the wrong approach.”
