Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

  • 24 Feb 2022

I am shocked and appalled at the events unfolding in Ukraine. I know people across Maidenhead will join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Ukrainian people who remain defiant in the face of this wanton and savage aggression.

Let there be no doubt- Vladimir Putin has initiated war in mainland Europe.

It is important we call out this action for what it is- this is a violent invasion of an independent, democratic country.

Ukrainian sovereignty must be respected.

Our response- in conjunction with our international partners must be unequivocal and absolutely clear and I welcome the measures already announced. I know there will be more to come.

We must put in place every possible economic sanction so that Russia feels absolutely the cold wind of isolation and the Russian people understand that Vladimir Putin has brought their state to a pariah state.

I know many people will have Ukrainian family members and friends and that this will be a particularly distressing time.

Over the coming days events will move quickly and will be subject to rapid developments. Therefore I would urge everyone to keep up to date with the latest information coming out of the Foreign Office. This can be accessed at the below link:

My office is also working to ensure that all enquiries receive the best up to date information available.

This is a defining moment not just for our collective security, but for the cause of democracy & freedom in our world.

Ukraine is on the frontlines fighting for freedom. It is vital that we stand with the people of Ukraine and that this cowardly act of violence initiated by President Putin does not go unpunished.
