Supporting the local area’s budding artists

  • 4 Aug 2008

Theresa May was so impressed with the quality of artwork produced by local students for a recent exhibition that she will be displaying a sample in her House of Commons office.

Artwork produced by students at Furze Platt Senior School was recently showcased at a special display in the Maidenhead Sainsbury’s. Theresa paid the exhibition a visit and was pleased to be presented with a painting by Year 12 student Alice Marshall. The painting will now be framed and put up in her office in the House of Commons.

Theresa said, “Displaying artwork produced by young people in the town centre is a great idea. It can act as an encouragement to all students interested in art, and it also brightens up the town centre. The quality of art produced by Furze Platt Senior School was very high and I am sure they are all proud of it. I was delighted to be presented with a piece myself, and I’ve decided to frame it in my office in the House of Commons so that anyone who comes to see me will be able to look at it. I will enjoy telling my colleagues in Parliament that it was painted by one of Maidenhead’s many talented young artists!”
