The Rt Hon Theresa May MP statement on Israel.

  • 10 Oct 2023

I have been shocked by the barbaric, unprovoked attack perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians. Hamas is a terrorist organisation and deserves absolute unequivocal condemnation.

I join with the UK Government in expressing my wholehearted support for the people of Israel and urge the international community to come together to co-ordinate support as developments continue to unfold.

This latest brutal act of aggression will have repercussions for the entire Middle East region. In the wake of this destabilising attack, the Governments of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the United States have come together in support of Israel’s right to defend itself.

The UK Government has reiterated its commitment to the ultimate goal of a peaceful and integrated Middle East region.

Hamas does not, however, represent the aspirations of all the Palestinian people and offers nothing other than more terror and bloodshed.

The UK Government has updated its travel advice for Israel, and you can find the most up to date information at the below link:

As Prime Minister, I was delighted to celebrate the Centenary of the Balfour Declaration in 2017; a declaration which laid the foundations for the state of Israel.

This savage attack is not just an attack on Israel, but an attack on freedom.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel, and everyone impacted by this reprehensible attack.
