Theresa addresses concerns over school places in Twyford

  • 27 May 2011

Theresa May is meeting Wokingham Borough Council officials to discuss the provision of primary school places in September amid growing concerns among parents in Twyford and the surrounding area. A number of parents have contacted Theresa to express concern that their children have not been offered places at local primary schools, and Theresa is keen to bring these to the attention of the Council and to discuss what more can be done to ensure that appropriate places are available for all children.

Commenting, Theresa said: “Although the vast majority of parents get their first preference place, there are a small number who miss out, particularly in Twyford where there are real issues about availability. As far as possible we want to ensure that every child has a place at a good, local primary school and I am keen to explore practical solutions to ensure that this can happen. The Council has worked hard to address capacity issues but it may be that there is more that can be done, and there is of course an imminent need to place children for this coming September.”
