Theresa backs campaign to keep Charles Ward at St Marks

  • 8 Mar 2011

Theresa May has given her support to the Maidenhead Advertiser’s campaign to save Charles Ward at St Marks Hospital. The campaign follows the news that mental health services for older people – provided by Charles Ward – are likely to be moved from St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead. The decision by Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust means that all mental health inpatient facilities could be located at Prospect Park Hospital in Reading.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I welcome the Maidenhead Advertiser’s campaign and fully support its call for Charles Ward at St Marks to remain open. I have frequently said it would be unacceptable for mental health services for older people to be moved to Reading and I have taken this up directly with the PCT and the Healthcare Trust. There is still time before a final decision is taken so I would encourage local residents to make their views known on this.”
