Theresa calls for Badnells Pit appeal to be rejected

  • 11 Jun 2008

Theresa May has continued to support efforts to prevent development on Badnells Pit. The long-running battle to prevent development has now reached the Planning Inspectorate, following an appeal by Michael Shanly Homes against the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s rejection of the plans to develop 402 residential units on the site.

Theresa has now written to the Planning Inspectorate in support of the Royal Borough’s original decision.

Theresa said, “I have campaigned against the proposed development at Badnells Pit. There are numerous problems with the proposals, not least of all the number of new dwellings being suggested. This overdevelopment is completely unjustified as the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead have stated that they have met their development targets for the next six years.”

“In addition, the impact of the development on local infrastructure and facilities such as schools, doctors, and nurseries has not been adequately considered in the proposal. That is not to mention the effect on transport infrastructure, and the flood risk posed to the site.”

“I was delighted that the Royal Borough listened to these concerns and rejected the application. I have written to the Planning Inspectorate to re-state my strong objections. I hope that the Inspectorate will uphold the Royal Borough’s original, and correct, decision.”
