Theresa meets developers to discuss future of Maidenhead town centre

  • 22 Jul 2011

Theresa May has met developers to discuss plans for the Kings Triangle project in Maidenhead town centre. The Kings Triangle redevelopment will transform the area north of Maidenhead Station, between King Street and Queen Street, with new shops, homes and offices. Theresa met ING Real Estate Developments, who are delivering the plan in partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, as well as the architects and planning consultants.

The project, which is currently being consulted on, will see the development of new shops and restaurants with a new ‘big name’ anchor store leading the way. There will also be new homes and offices located above the retail units, with pedestrian streets and links to the High Street, Nicholsons Shopping Centre and New Market.

Theresa broadly welcomed the proposals but also stressed the importance of this being the first part of wider redevelopment in Maidenhead town centre. She also sought assurances on the amount of parking that will be available, links to the train station, and the likely timetable for the project.

Commenting, Theresa said: “These are exciting proposals but they are only the first steps in rejuvenating Maidenhead town centre. It is important that the Kings Triangle has good links with the rest of the town centre, and the rail station, so that improvement can spread across the town. I also sought assurances that there would be sufficient car parking spaces and that the flow of traffic around the area would be appropriate for both pedestrians and car users.”

“Having met the developers, I am encouraged by their vision for Maidenhead and I will work with them and the Royal Borough to ensure that these plans are as strong as possible. I would also encourage all local residents to take a look at the plans and to respond to the consultation ahead of the formal planning permission being submitted.”

Local residents are invited to attend the Kings Triangle Public Exhibition at the High Street Methodist Church on Friday 22nd July from 2pm to 7pm, and Saturday 23rd July from 10am to 2pm.
