Theresa presses minister for broadband in Waltham St Lawrence

  • 8 Jan 2009

Theresa May has continued her long-running campaign to bring broadband to Waltham St Lawrence and parts of Hurst. She has taken her quarrel with BT to the Communications Minister, Lord Carter, asking him to work with broadband suppliers to achieve better access to fast internet in the local area.

Theresa commented, “I am surprised that despite claiming broadband development is one of their top four communications priorities, the Government has not taken more decisive action. BT has given a number of excuses and promises but has failed to provide an adequate service to rural areas. This is a postcode lottery and leaves many homeworkers and small businesses at a distinct disadvantage against competitors with reliable and fast connections. It is entirely unacceptable that two centrally located and easily accessible villages on the commuter belt are being left behind in the communications race.”
