Theresa quizzes NHS Berkshire over St Marks services

  • 15 May 2012

Theresa May has held a meeting with the Chief Executive of NHS Berkshire to question him about reports that services could be removed from St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead. Theresa met Charles Waddicor to discuss the progress of NHS Berkshire’s ‘Shaping the Future’ project, which is considering the future of health services in East Berkshire. Although many different options are being looked at, local residents have been concerned by reports that outpatient services could be removed from St Marks as part of a plan to centralise services at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.

At the meeting Mr Waddicor reassured Theresa that NHS Berkshire did not at present want to close the outpatient services at St Marks, but he also stated that the option would remain on the table.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I am somewhat reassured that removing services from St Marks is not currently seen as a favourable option by NHS Berkshire, but until they completely rule it out I left them in no doubt that I will continue to be on their case and will press them to guarantee that services will be safeguarded.”

Theresa will also be meeting representatives of Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust to discuss the future of health services in the local area.
