Theresa responds to concerns of former Nortel employees

  • 6 May 2009

Theresa May has taken action following the announcement of job losses at Nortel Networks, one of the major employers in the Maidenhead area. Nortel employs 1,200 staff in Maidenhead but the parent firm has filed for bankruptcy protection in the US.

Theresa is concerned at the manner in which staff have been made redundant and is looking into the matter on behalf of constituents who have contacted her.

She said, “I have received a number of letters from constituents about the way they have been treated by Nortel in making their recent redundancies. Having written to the administrators, I have now been in contact with a lobby of MPs to help bring attention to Nortel’s actions and ensure that those made redundant are treated fairly through this difficult time. I will continue to fight for a reasonable package for these people who have been so appallingly treated.”
