Theresa welcomes council action on Oldfield School

  • 15 Jul 2009

Theresa May has welcomed the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s announcement that it will be conducting a study into the feasibility of expanding Oldfield Primary School. The school is regularly over-subscribed meaning that many parents miss out on their first choice of school for their child.

However, the council is now looking at the option of building on a new site close to the current school in order to expand capacity. A feasibility study will be discussed by the council before any final decisions are taken. If the plan is approved then the new site could be located in Bray Road, a short distance from the current site in Chiltern Road.

Demand for the 30 places at Oldfield has greatly increased in recent years, from 78 in 2006/7 to 99 in 2009/10.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I very much welcome the action that the council is taking to address the over-subscription at Oldfield. I know from the emails I receive that this is a very popular local school, and unfortunately many parents go disappointed each year when their child cannot get in. All local children should have the choice of a good school and I look forward to seeing the results of the feasibility study.”
