Theresa welcomes visit of Olympic Torch to Maidenhead and Bisham

  • 14 Nov 2011

Theresa May has welcomed the news that the Olympic Torch will visit Maidenhead and Bisham as part of the nationwide torch relay ahead of the London Games next year. The torch will travel through the local area on Tuesday 10th July 2012, in between overnight stops in Oxford and Reading. It will first visit Bisham, home of the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, before continuing into Maidenhead. The torch will continue onto Slough and Windsor before stopping for the night in Reading.

Theresa had previously written to the Chief Executive of the London Organising Committee to make the case for the torch relay travelling through Maidenhead and the local area, in recognition of the local links to the 2012 Games.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I am very pleased that the Olympic Torch will be visiting Maidenhead, Bisham and other parts of the Royal Borough next year. This is an appropriate way for the local area’s links to the London Games to be recognised. I very much look forward to the relay visiting us next July.”
