Theresa May has pressed Network Rail to ensure that Maidenhead and Twyford commuters benefit from improvements to the Great Western route over the coming years. At a recent meeting with senior Network Rail officials Theresa received an update on upcoming improvement works including the electrification of the line, the redevelopment of Maidenhead station, and the introduction of Crossrail. Theresa May has welcomed the publication of Network Rail’s new strategic plan, which confirms plans to electrify the Great Western route serving Maidenhead and Twyford, and opens the possibility of extending electrification to the Thames Valley branch lines. The plan follows on from the Government’s announcement that it would provide £14 billion to Network Rail to improve rail infrastructure, and that the Great Western line would be electrified to ensure quicker and cleaner services.Read More

Theresa May has welcomed the Coalition Government’s ‘Mid-Term Review’ which has confirmed the progress of several infrastructure projects that will boost the Maidenhead area. The ‘Mid-Term Review’ document, published by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, confirms the Government’s commitment to a new western rail link to Heathrow Airport, and the Crossrail project. There will also be a boost in broadband provision, with the Government committing to achieving universal broadband across the UK including in rural areas.Read More

Theresa May has welcomed the Government’s announcement that it will provide up to £500 million towards a western rail link to Heathrow, which will provide a direct link to the airport from the Thames Valley region. The commitment was announced as part of the Government’s Draft Aviation Policy Framework, and represents a success for businesses and other organisations who have campaigned for a new western access route to Heathrow in order to ensure quicker transport links for those travelling to the airport from the west.Read More

Theresa May has met the Secretary of State for Transport, Justine Greening, to discuss the likely impact of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on transport in and around Maidenhead. With rowing events taking place at nearby Eton Dorney, Maidenhead is likely to be a key transport link and Theresa therefore sought assurances that appropriate measures had been put in place to ensure that the road and rail network will be able to cope with the expected number of visitors.Read More
