Theresa welcomes Ofcom’s Mobile Coverage Checker

  • 27 Nov 2015

Theresa May has welcomed Ofcom’s Mobile Coverage Checker which will help constituents check the mobile coverage they could expect in Maidenhead and across the UK. Ofcom launched its online Mobile Coverage Checker in August and, using data from the four UK mobile phone network providers – EE, O2, Vodafone and Three – the interactive map presents the estimated level of coverage both indoors and outside. The map displays coverage for voice calls, 3G and 4G data connections.

In Maidenhead, Ofcom predicts good mobile coverage for voice calls and texts. This is excellent news for many residents and businesses who depend on reliable mobile reception. A colour-coded system categorises each area and Maidenhead – marked green – demonstrates the highest likelihood of mobile coverage, with red being the lowest.

The Government remains committed to ensuring mobile coverage is improved across the UK, particularly areas seen as ‘not-spots’ – areas where there is currently no coverage available – and ‘partial not-spots’ – areas which have poor levels of coverage from mobile operators.

Commenting, Theresa said: “I welcome Ofcom’s Mobile Coverage Checker and their prediction of good mobile coverage in Maidenhead for calls and texts. Like broadband, mobile coverage is essential for my constituents and businesses who rely on good reception to access services and work. I encourage my constituents to use the checker and to provide Ofcom with feedback for our area. Feedback is important for Ofcom if they are to improve the maps and develop this tool further. This Government believes good mobile coverage is essential for everyone, no matter where they live.”
