Local MP Theresa May has published a Parliamentary report on T1DE—type 1 diabetes and disordered eating. The report is the result of an inquiry by Theresa and Labour MP Sir George Howarth, supported by the Type 1 diabetes charity JDRF.

T1DE is a condition estimated to affect over a quarter of type 1 diabetics in the UK. T1DE is life-shortening, life-threatening and can lead to death.

Theresa said: “Following publication I was able to question the Prime Minister and urge him to ensure that  the Government acted on the recommendations in the report. He welcomed the T1DE report and assured me that the Health Secretary will consider the report’s findings. Already the Hampshire NHS Integrated Care Board has responded positively to the report’s findings.

A substantial portion of our NHS’s budget goes on treating diabetes.

This report, which is the first of its kind, really gets into the detail of T1DE; it underscores key challenges and identifies a number of practical recommendations for the NHS to consider which would save money and crucially improve and save lives”.
