Theresa visits Maidenhead Station to take part in Optalis's ‘Try a Train’ event.

Yesterday (Monday 17th October) Theresa visited Maidenhead Station to take part in Optalis's 'Try a Train' workshop.

The 'Try a Train' workshop, which is run by Southeast Community Rail Partnership (SCRP) and Optalis, helps teach people with learning difficulties the basics of using train travel.

Specific details of the workshop includes teaching beneficiaries how to:

  • Plan a journey and read timetables
  • Buy tickets and access the correct platform
  • Railway safety
  • Problem solving; What to do if things change (e.g. the train is late).
  • Understand how to navigate around the stations using signage and where to seek help

Theresa found this workshop very informative and was delighted to meet with representatives of SCRP, Optalis and GWR as well as people who have benefitted from the 'Try a Train' workshop to discuss how this scheme has helped them.
